Welcome to The Square and Compasses

The Square and Compasses is a traditional country pub set in the picturesque countryside of rural Essex. Believed to date from about 1652 and originally two farmers cottages, the building retains a wealth of original features with exposed beams throughout.

Nice words

Best kept secret in Essex
Faultless service, and the food is fabulous. The pub takes great pride over sourcing their food as local as possible, and also take into consideration whats available season by season. Magic and may it continue.

Lovely atmospheric evening
This was our first visit here and we were delighted with the choice. Real ale in an oldy worldy setting. The food was excellent and service was both attentive and friendly. We will be back!!
